Amyris essential oil is obtained via steam distillation of the bark and wood of the Amyris balsamifera tree, also known as “West-Indian sandalwood” due to its aromatic similarity to true sandalwood. The oil is a pale yellow to brown-yellow liquid with a warm, woody, and balsamic scent. While it is easily soluble in alcohol, vegetable oils, and other essential oils, it is nearly insoluble in water.
Amyris oil is valued for its calming and reassuring properties and can act as a gentle aphrodisiac. Its antiseptic qualities make it useful for minor wounds, grazes, and skin irritations. This versatile oil is suitable for massage oils, perfumed lamps, soaps, body oils, and bath products.
